The TV market is getting bigger and better - but also far more difficult to sift through, especially when everything offers similar levels of excellent picture quality.

In 2021, Philips’ OLED806 was at the front of the pack - we rated it 5 stars in our review - thanks to its excellent picture quality, extensive specification and its poised sound. Using Philips’ very own Ambilight technology (more on that shortly), it stood out in a sea of samey TVs. Now, Philips has arrived in 2022 with a vengeance, improving on greatness with the OLED807 smart TV and offering even better picture quality and boosted sound.

Better yet, Ambilight has had a next-gen facelift. This stunning technology matches and enhances the action onscreen by projecting dynamic, rich lighting from the rear of the TV, creating a truly immersive experience - and reduces eyestrain.

This impressive TV is the natural choice if you’re looking to upgrade your set-up with a new, high-end TV with all the trimmings, offering all-round quality and great value for money. If you’re not convinced already, join us as we explore the OLED807’s extensive set of rich and exciting features, which are sure to tickle the fancies of cinephiles, gamers and sports fans alike.

Better display

If you’ve had a viewing experience with the OLED806, you’d be remiss to think there’s not much further that Philips could push its screen technology, but with the OLED807’s upgraded OLED.EX Panel, you get up to 30% more peak brightness. Plus, the screen bezel is also narrower than before, granting a more seamless connection between the onscreen image and the Ambilight halo.

With the OLED807 also comes a new, sixth-generation P5 AI picture processor, which has the power to optimise both SDR & HDR picture quality whatever the light level in the room thanks to the all-new Ambient Intelligence. The upgraded P5 also means even more stunning visuals across 4K HDR and upscaled HD movies, TV and games.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a TV with as much support for HDR and other enhanced picture modes, too. The OLED807 comes with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR10 and HLG and IMAX Enhanced certification – which is new for ’22.

Better audio

If you, like us, have come to expect underwhelming sound from your flatscreen TV, be prepared to be amazed. The OLED806 already outperformed most of the market with its audio performance, and the OLED807 builds on this success with more clarity and even more powerful bass.

Leveraging a new active crossover, this OLED TV effectively turns a 2.1 system into a 70W 4.1 system and even has support for Dolby Atmos. Still not impressed? Well, as an added bonus, the OLED807 can act as a dedicated centre channel for your wireless sound system if you have Philips’ DTS Play-Fi external speakers.

Next-gen Ambilight

As we mentioned before, Philips’ exclusive Ambilight technology allows the image to extend beyond the screen - which is entirely unique in the OLED TV market. This gives a perceived contrast improvement, and thanks to the OLED807 having an even slimmer bezel for the OLED.EX panel, the connection between screen action and the immersion of Ambilight is even more seamless.

The four-sided, Next Gen Ambilight has been improved in the 2022 model, offering a wider range of more precise colours than ever. Better yet, for the first time, it can also change individual LEDs rather than groups of them, offering an even more accurate match with the onscreen image. Now more than ever, the feeling of the picture extending beyond the boundaries of the set is truly uncanny.

It's game time

If you want high-res, high frame rate gaming, Philips has you covered. With HDMI 2.1 connectivity, the OLED807 supports 4K 120 and variable refresh rate (VRR), meaning you can make the most out of your next-gen console’s visual performance capabilities. The OLED807’s Game Bar makes a breeze out of changing your visual settings in-game, thanks to its user-friendly interface.

The best TV is a smart TV

Using the latest Android 11 TV operating system, you’ll have a built-in Google Assistant and access to all the major streaming apps, including Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.

Comes in all shapes and sizes

Finally, the OLED807 comes in a variety of sizes; 48-, 55-, 65- and 77-inch. If you’ve never owned a slimline TV, you might be surprised to find how easily even the larger screens can fit seamlessly into your viewing space, whether you’re wall mounting or using a stand - so don’t write off the 65- and 77-inch too soon!
